montreal…

Montreal-pure-green

I was reminded of my desire to explore Montreal after reading the latest issue of Pure Green Magazine. Have you seen it? I just love it…nice job ladies (and Jonathan)! Rich in history, Montreal is filled with unique and beautiful sites and experiences. It also happens to be the second largest primarily French-speaking city in the world, after Paris! So, it's a francophile haven, and currently more budget friendly than the city of lights. High on my list is the International Jazz Fair held there annually…that would be the time of year I would most likely go, even with the hoards of people. It is just too good to miss! Although, being the snow bunny that I am, the Fête des Neiges (or snow festival) is extremely enticing as well. A winter wonderland with snow slides and ice castles?! Sign me up.

the dogs of cheverny

Cheverny-dogs

I was reminded of the beautiful hunting dogs of Cheverny thanks to Kasia's recent trip to the Loire Valley. When I visited with my brother in 2006, I was really amazed by how regal they were…but of course they are, right? I believe there are about seventy…we got lucky and caught them at nap time. I couldn't stop photographing them, so beautiful. I love the one sitting up, looking towards the setting sun…

la fontaine gaillon…

La-fontaine-gaillon

In researching new and exciting places to dine in Paris, I remembered one of the best meals I've ever had, at La Fontaine Gaillon. Situated in the 2nd arrondissement, the location is idyllic, in la Place Gaillon. The owner, whom you may know of (wink), takes great care in selecting the menu, and it changes frequently to accomodate the best possible fare, and focuses on classic cuisine. I was with my Mom, and we were delighted with the food, and we thought the prices were very reasonable for such an elegant experience. I was impressed with their wine list, which focused on small, locally owned vineyards. Across the way is their second restaurant…L'ecaille de la Fontaine, which is more intimate and feels like you are just hanging out with Gérard. Ah yes, the owner I mentioned would be Gérard Depardieu.

celebrating the louvre

Louvre

On this day in history, 1793, the Louvre was first opened as a public museum. Building began in 1546, on the site of an old 12th century fortress (which you can still see remains of in the crypt). It served as a palace for monarchy, from the reign of King Francis I, all the way to Louis XIV, before he moved his court to Versailles. The museum houses nearly 35,000 objects and is the world's most visited. It is such an amazing structure, and continues to impress with it's beauty, inside and out.

Eliott

Who is this handsome little guy you ask? My nephew in France…Eliott, whom I have yet to meet. But…not for long! I will be back in France early next year, and I'm already counting the days! I haven't seen my brother since our wedding in 2009, and in 2010 our planned Paris meeting was messed up due to the strike. I miss them all so much, and can't wait to meet the boy who will carry on our family name!
