reading terminal market

Reading

I can finally check something off of my Philadelphia “must see” list. We headed into the city this weekend to see some sights, and we didn’t get too far due to weather. It was a poor decision on our part to walk around on a muggy, wet day in a bustling city. I don’t even want to begin to describe the smells that were hanging in the air. So, needless to say, I was not a very happy camper. I can only take so much of the city. However…it was good to finally see Reading Terminal Market, which has been an institution here since the 1800’s. We sampled some of the goodies, and were overwhelmed by all there was to offer. I am always looking for new & exciting things to see when I’m in the city…recommendations are welcome!

This past weekend we drove to Manayunk (a section of Philly) to check out the Three Potato Four barn sale. I had been hearing about them for a while, yet had never made it out there. We arrived early and joined the line waiting to enter…imagine having a line to get into your store-what a dream! The old warehouse was filled with vintage treasures, and we found ourselves wanting to build a room around an old industrial worktable. We left with just a few small items, but now know where to go for inspiration.

A great gift for the francophile in your life…the eiffel floursack towel set by Girls Can Tell. This Philly based brand is the brainchild of the creative Sara Selepouchin. I think this particular design might be sold out at the moment, but it is my favorite…(bien sur). Check out all the designs here.

Coterie

Jane Flanagan of the blog Ill Seen, Ill Said recently launched her beautiful online boutique, Coterie. Her aesthetic is simple elegance and that is reflected in the shop's offerings. All the items are selected personally by Jane, and feature handmade pieces by artisans in Canada, the US, Wales, Ireland and elsewhere. The lovely porcelain creation shown above is by artist Jennifer Graham, and it's one of my favorites. The wood pieces, textiles, and paper goods are so unique. Congratulations Jane on a thoughtfully and beautifully curated shop!
