our poconos getaway

I’m feeling pretty blissed out after spending last week and Labor Day weekend in the Poconos. After basically an entire month of moving and hard labor, the timing was perfect – we’ve never needed a break more. The Poconos has become a summer tradition for us…last year we rented a home at Lake Naomi after my good friend Chanee spoke so highly of it, and loved it so much we made plans to return this summer. We were fortunate enough to stay at Chanee’s beautiful vacation home there (#kodailakehouse), as her + her husband recently moved to California and are renting it out! As a textile designer, her design aesthetic is amazing…the lake house is cozy and comfortable, but modernized + luxe thanks to her touch. Every morning I walked down to the dock to watch the sunrise, often with Henry by my side. With steam rising from the lake and the peaceful, soft sounds of the water and wildlife, it was just what the doctor ordered.

We developed a relaxing rhythm of heading down the fern path to the our little beach, playing in the sand, snacking on the dock, and kayaking. Henry and Marie hadn’t stopped talking about kayaking since we first did it last year, so that was a priority for us. We managed to kayak every day, and even worked in a canoe ride (which lasted all of five minutes due to my anxiety over the kids possibly tipping us). One morning we drove to Bushkill Falls and hiked as a family to see “the niagara of Pennsylvania”…it was fun for the kids to try a more difficult trail this year, and the main waterfall is quite impressive. I highly recommend a visit if you’re in the Poconos, especially with kids.

S’mores just had to happen. While the kids are a bit too young to fully participate, we let them spear the marshmallows and watch as we roasted them. Surprisingly, they weren’t that into eating them, but that just meant more for us! I hadn’t done it in years, but thankfully mr. fleurishing remembered some crucial s’mores skills. I was reminded during this vacation that relaxing is a skill, and I had *almost* perfected it by the time we had to leave, ha. It’s always hard to go back to reality after vacation, but we left feeling refreshed + rejuvenated. We’ll be returning next year for sure!

farewell summer!

sister cities park

We had one mission this Fourth of July weekend – to give the kids their first splash pad experience. After some research and friend polling, I decided our first should be Sister Cities Park. Having driven by it many times and always seeing a flock of moms and strollers, I knew it must be great. With a pond, children’s garden, cafe + splash pad, it has more than enough to keep the kiddos (and mommy + daddy) happy. Dressed in appropriate holiday colors, we joined the masses in the sunshine! We splashed, we sailed (mini boats), we smiled…it was a good day. Follow through for more cuteness!

south of brooklyn feature

Recently, I had the honor of being interviewed by the talented husband/wife team, Dave and Jennifer Cooper. They are the power couple/creative minds behind the passion project South of Brooklyn, sharing the stories behind creatives, makers, and entrepreneurs – you guessed it – south of Brooklyn. While I wholeheartedly recognize Brooklyn as a bastion of cool, I’m also very proud to live in Philadelphia, which is also (in my opinion, and many others) having a “moment”. It’s very palpable here, and I’m thankful to be present to witness it, and dare I say, take part in it. I’m thrilled they asked me to talk about my family and francophilia, as they represent such a big chunk of my identity. It’s my first video feature (gulp) – many thanks to Jennifer and Dave for making it a comfortable (and fun) first experience. Check it out…

the nod bookmobile is coming to philly!

Have you heard the news?! The Land of Nod just announced their partnership with Little Golden Books, and I couldn’t be more excited. The new collection includes an adorable range of products – unique gifts, bedding, decor, and of course…books! Little Golden Books are dear to my heart, as I have vivid memories of them as a child, and cannot wait to collect them for Henry + Marie. As part of their campaign, they’ve given the Nod Tour Bus a new look as a bookmobile, and it’s coming to Philadelphia! They will be making several stops in our area, which I’ve listed below…but you can also see the full list of states + stops (plus a cute little video) here. For every book purchased, Random House Children’s Books will donate one to Milk + Bookies…how awesome is that?! And psst…I’m going to be the special storyteller at the Baldwin’s Book Barn location (in West Chester)…I’m so honored + elated! I hope you’ll join the fun next month!
