I am smitten with our little town in Pennsylvania. It seems as if we were here before and have returned, that's how good it feels. For someone that loves history, living in a city that came to life in 1769 is a dream. The downtown area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and as you walk along the worn brick sidewalks, you can feel the past. We discover something new and fascinating on every walk, it's wonderful!

I happened upon this beautiful original artwork the other day at a local shop-it literally stopped me in my tracks on the sidewalk. I did not know about Marie Laurencin before this, I am slightly embarrassed to say. Born in Paris, she ran in the circle of Picasso, and became known as one the few female Cubist painters. These particular sketches were done in 1946, 10 years before her death, when she was experimenting with more feminine styles. I’m coveting the one on the left. ;)
(Thank you to Acorn Cottage in West Chester PA for letting me photograph these!)
Our farmers market purchase this week (ok, every week)…whoopie pie! We just recently discovered this local treat, and we’re hooked. Shown above are the delicious oatmeal-the more common chocolate are not pictured, because, well…we ate them before I could get a photo. I just couldn’t resist looking up the history of these, and they are a Pennsylvania Amish tradition. Apparently the women would put these in farmer’s lunchboxes, and when they found the treats, they would exclaim…“WHOOPIE!”
