paris day trips: giverny

In 2006 my Mom joined me on my second journey to France, and we saved a very special day trip for last. Giverny…the home and gardens of Monet, which inspired his now iconic water lily paintings. With my Mom being an art teacher, I was taught quite a bit about the subject growing up, with a focus on impressionism (since it was her personal favorite). I also developed an affinity for Monet, and dreamed of the day I could stand on the bridge over the water lily pond. I had no idea I would be able to share this moment with my Mom, and it will remain one of our most treasured memories. Giverny happens to be a fabulous day trip from Paris, and the town itself is incredibly charming. His home is quaint and colorful, and the gardens…well, inspirational.

I love returning home after a trip to a big juicy pile of mail, and if packages are included it's even better. My excitement grew when I saw the envelope containing my recent purchases from the fabulous shop of  little brown pen! I have been coveting their goodies for quite some time now, and finally decided upon the "a message here" photography series, as well as another gorgeous 8 x 10 photo. I'm a big fan of gray, and that combined with my love of Paris is a no brainer! I can't wait to frame and hang them. Check out the shop here.

I stumbled upon these the other day, done by letteria, a swiss artist who has a shop on etsy. I wish these were for sale right now, as I am a letterpress fanatic and would snatch these up. She also has a great flickr site showing her work. The message happens to be one of my favorite classic french songs, "La Vie En Rose", by the amazing Edith Piaf.
